Job Opening: Call Center Operator/Receptionist

The Public Defender for the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida seeks a call center operator/receptionist for a fast-paced, client-centered office. 

The Public Defender is an elected official who has a constitutional duty to provide legal representation to persons in jeopardy of losing their life or liberty who cannot afford to hire a private attorney. Our office employs nearly 200 lawyers plus investigators, mitigation specialists, secretaries, and paralegals to assist with the more than 65,000 cases we handle each year. Job Description

The call center operator/receptionist serves as primary intake point for witnesses, clients, court reporters, interpreters, private attorneys, police officers, and the public. Job may include providing assistance and directing visitors to the appropriate staff member or to outside agencies, answering and routing incoming communications from visitors and/or callers, handling a high volume of calls, staffing phone lines designated for the exclusive use of clients who are housed in correctional facilities and providing basic information.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years experience
  • Proficiency in MS Word and data entry
  • Excellent verbal, written, computer, communication and interpersonal skills
  • English/Spanish preferred

Salary and Benefits

  • Starting salary is $33,280
  • Health insurance
  • Annual leave – 15 days per year
  • Sick leave - 12 days per year
  • Paid holidays – 13 days per year
  • $25,000 life insurance policy - paid by the State of Florida
  • Optional employee-paid supplement insurance plans available (additional life insurance, vision, dental, cancer, hospitalization, and disability)
