Public Defender Bennett Brummer honored for Anti-Violence Initiative
Miami, FL March 30, 2000 Miami-Dade Public Defender Bennett H. Brummer
was recognized by Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas as a national leader in violence prevention during a major training conference in Miami.
Mr. Brummers Anti-Violence Initiative promotes research into the root causes of violence and crime and the use of proven prevention and treatment programs to reduce crime.
In a proclamation Mayor Penelas honored Mr. Brummer for promoting community partnerships designed to improve public policy, strengthen families and reduce crime and violence. The proclamation, presented by Miami-Dade Commissioner Barbara Carey-Shuler at the conference, declared March 30, 2000 Public Defender Bennett H. Brummers Anti-Violence Initiative Day.
I am deeply moved by this honor, Mr. Brummer said. I have spent my public career working to improve the quality of life for all people, rich and poor alike. This is the focus of my Anti-Violence Initiative.
The conference, Juveniles in Adult Court: Our Children, Our Future, was sponsored by the Public Defender and attracted more than 300 attorneys, judges, social workers and police officers from throughout Florida and the United States.
Mr. Brummer organized the national conference to bring together the experts, the research and the community to address the root causes of juvenile delinquency, effective treatment and public safety.
