Investigator Internship Program
The Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office (PD-11) has always been at the
forefront of innovations in the criminal defense arena for indigent clients. One
such innovation is the creation of this internship program, which gives its
participants an insight into conducting professional investigations in one of
the most challenging environment in the state. Being one of the busiest circuit
in Florida assures the intern is exposed and trained to investigate a variety of
cases. PD-11 provides the intern with the foundation needed to pursue and
succeed in any public or private investigation endeavor.
Although this program is primarily intended for students seeking their private
investigator class “CC’ and “C” license, others pursuing degrees in criminal
justice will be considered. We are not requiring prior investigative experience
because this is an on the job training program. We are looking for interns who
are responsible, honest, have sound integrity, good judgment, are committed to
community service and most importantly, maintain total confidentiality. These
are all traits of a successful investigator.
The intern will work closely with a professional and skilled investigator who
will act as his/her mentor. Interns will do everything that an investigator
does, such as conduct client interviews, record gathering, skip tracing,
background checks, serve subpoenas, photograph crime scenes, write investigative
reports, area canvas, etc. The intern will have the opportunity on a rotating
basis to work in the following areas within our office: Juvenile Division,
Misdemeanor Division, Felony Division. The intern will occasionally complete
assignments for our Domestic Representation Unit, Capital Unit, Felony Early
Representation Unit and the Felony Intake Unit. The intern should expect to work
an average of 15 hours per week during this internship. Interns will receive a
certificate indicating the number of hours completed at the end of their
internship.
We will reimburse interns for mileage at Florida’s current rate per mile.
Although the program cannot pay its interns at this time, this program provides
an opportunity that should serve as a stepping stone for a bright and promising
future. The investigator internship program at PD-11 is one of those
opportunities that could open up doors and give you a perspective into the
challenging world of the Criminal Justice System. If you are interested in
participating in our internship program, you can either email your resume and a
completed employment (Internship) application to Rony Condom Jr, Chief
Investigator, or mail it to his attention at the address below.
